It has been nine years since the Rohingya people endured a genocidal campaign at the hands of the Myanmar military that forced more than 700,000 people to flee to neighboring Bangladesh. Most still live there in the world's largest refugee settlement. As Rohingya refugees look ahead to the tenth year of their exile from their homeland, they are also facing compounding hardships: dramatic funding cuts to lifesaving food aid, restrictions on their right to work, and limited educational opportunities. These conditions are driving thousands to dangerous journeys by sea in search of safety in other countries. Hundreds have died at sea this year alone. With little prospects of a safe return home, Rohingya are left to wonder about their future – and whether the perpetrators of this genocide will ever be held accountable. In this episode, we hear from Lucky Karim, founder of Refugee Women for Peace and Justice, about the current conditions that Rohingya refugees are facing in the Cox's Bazar refugee camp.
