What happens when transgender inmate placement policies raise questions about safety, privacy, and the rights of incarcerated women?
Riley Gaines sits down with women's rights activist Amy Sousa to discuss the controversy surrounding MCI Framingham, a women's correctional facility in Massachusetts, and the growing debate over transgender inmates in women's prisons.
Following a protest outside the facility, Sousa shares accounts she says she received from incarcerated women and correctional officers, including allegations of safety concerns, assaults, and pressure on women who speak out.
Riley and Amy also examine the constitutional rights of incarcerated women, questions surrounding prison housing policies, and the challenges facing female correctional officers.
The conversation explores how this issue has brought together feminist activists, liberals, and conservatives—and why Sousa believes protecting vulnerable women should transcend political differences.
