Riley Gaines sits down with Jen Sey to discuss the WNBA, transgender eligibility in women's sports, fan harassment, and the future of women's basketball. They also examine sports governance, league marketing, and why supporting women's athletics means showing up.
What does the future of women's sports look like? Riley Gaines is joined by Jen Sey, former elite gymnast and women's sports advocate, for a conversation about the WNBA, fairness in female athletics, and the challenges facing those who speak out.
They discuss the WNBA's response to questions about player eligibility, the debate over sex-based rules in sports, and whether other athletic organizations will follow similar policies. Jen also recounts her experience attending a WNBA game in San Francisco, including the hostile reactions she and her friends say they encountered while wearing shirts supporting women's sports.
The conversation expands to athlete advocacy, sex-verification policies in tennis, national anthem protests, and the role of politics in professional sports. Riley and Jen also discuss the WNBA's marketing, fan experience, and business strategy, asking how women's basketball can attract and retain a broader audience.
Throughout the episode, they make the case for supporting female athletes by attending games and investing in women's sports.
