PMC co-founder and loudspeaker designer Peter Thomas on HiFi, loudspeaker design, professional audio and the pursuit of real sound. What makes a speaker sound accurate? Why are real drums and cymbals so difficult to reproduce? Why does PMC voice their home audio the same as their pro audio? Then we head inside the world of professional recording: Hollywood film scoring, Abbey Road and Capitol Studios, spatial audio, analogue tape versus digital, and what can be lost between the original recording and the music we finally hear at home. Along the way Peter shares remarkable encounters with Stevie Wonder and Elton John and draws on more than 35 years of PMC experience to explore one deceptively difficult question: how close can HiFi really get to the sound of the real thing?
