The NFL is developing a technology platform to train a new generation of flag football players, coaches, and referees.
The announcement came on October 15 at Columbia University’s Sports Management Conference.
The goal is to help expand flag football around the world, ahead of the sport’s Olympics debut in Los Angeles in 2028.
Flag football? In the Olympics? And the NFL?
Scott & A get to the bottom of this surprising announcement.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the 2026 NFL season.
Not because of a concussion.
Not because of a torn ligament.
Because doctors discovered blood clots in his leg and both lungs.
A potentially life-threatening medical condition.
Should he have played? Was it safe for him to fly?

Wembanyama recently told reporters he would never accept a sponsorship deal promoting a sports gambling company.
His exact words were: “Absolutely not. I will never do that.”

How common is CTE among NFL players overall?
We have never had a good answer.
A new study published this week in The BMJ gives us the best attempt yet.
Ninety-three percent of the former NFL players whose brains were examined in a major new study had CTE.
That means at least one in four players. At least.

“Book Birthday” is a term authors use for the day their book is released. A rarified celebration took place on September 22, 2026, when Scott had two hardcover releases on the same day. This episode is a massive party for this double-ended birthday, recorded live during the Scott Sigler Slices livestream.

BIG BAD BOOK OF KAIJU
A hardcover anthology containing twenty-five original tales of city-smashing titans, and the desperate coalitions of humanity clinging to survival in the wreckage. Scott’s story, “Kaiju Poo-Poo,” is a dark (dark brown?) tale of post-apocalyptic giant monsters and the constipation that may exterminate all of humanity.
**“They’ll tell you a colonoscopy is no big deal…”**

BEASTS BEYOND THE RIVER
Released in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook—narrated by Ray Porter—this horror story, set amid the brutality of the French & Indian War, unleashes malevolent forces onto the frontier of Colonial America.
**Beware the Bear!**

We wheeled and dealed and got permission to share the first 35 minutes of Beasts Beyond the River, Scott’s intense new horror novel, read by none other than Ray Porter (narrator of PROJECT HAIL MARY, EARTHCORE, MOUNT FITZROY, THE BOBBIVERSE, JOE LEDGER, and more).

SYNOPSIS:
Amidst the brutality of the French and Indian War, an officer in the legendary Rogers’ Rangers is thrust into a nightmare that will challenge both his leadership and his lifelong quest to leave his father’s heritage behind. Lieutenant Geoffrey Rapelje is tasked with guiding a ranger detachment to his birthplace to preserve a fragile treaty between the British and his father’s people.
What Geoffrey finds is not the idyllic village of his youth, but a land—and a tribe—ravaged by a vicious, unknown force.
He and his rangers embark on a harrowing journey across a North American wilderness beset by violence, betrayal, and inexplicable terrors. To defeat a genocidal enemy, Geoffrey must embrace a dark truth he has long denied.

SLICES: Football 101

Before 2026, college players normally had four seasons of competition within a five-year eligibility window.
An underclassman who still had NCAA eligibility could declare early for the NFL Draft after being out of high school for at least three years.
Once he gave up his remaining college eligibility and entered the NFL Draft, that decision was effectively permanent.
If he was drafted, signed an NFL contract, went to camp, made a practice squad, or otherwise became a professional, he could not later say, “That didn’t work out; I’m going back to college.”
The NCAA specifically prohibited players who had signed professional contracts from returning to college competition.
So the traditional path was basically:
College → declare for NFL Draft → professional football. No going backward.
But now, some players are choosing to step down the ladder instead of up the stairs.
We chat all about it, plus an update from Scott on how much has changed since we did, only last Tuesday!

SLICES: NFL Players Going Back to College?

Look, I can’t tell you WHY it matters, but I can tell you SOMETIMES it matters what number a player is wearing on his chest. It just does.
Could be the same number as someone the player admires. Could be a number they’ve always worn. Could be their “favorite” number, whatever that means.
What I know is that sometimes, the number is the most important thing.
And when that happens? Lawd, the lengths one will go to get in on that number.

Jayden Daniels graduated from LSU in 2023. Currently a Washington Commander, he sent a cease & desist letter to his alma mater this month, possibly as a protest since the football program gave a new player “his” jersey number.
Did LSU fail to keep its promise to Jayden Daniels? Does LSU have an obligation to keep its promise to DJ Pickett, current cornerback and wearer of jersey number 5?
It’s more complicated than it seems.

Might just have to rant and rave about it with a new domain, using GoDaddy Promo Code CJCFOSSIG3 to get ninety-nine percent off year one of a three-year domain. Go Orange! Go Black! Make sure next year you come back!Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
