August 30th is celebrated as International Whale Shark Day around the world. this time on the Shark Task Force, let's meet this impressive animal in the waters off the coast of the Yucatan.

This time on the Shark Task Force, an update on Emma the Tiger Shark - and shark diving in the Bahamas.  Diving with Tiger Sharks takes a lot of knowledge on how to scuba dive. The other thing about diving with Tiger Sharks in the Bahamas, is that they largely repeat the same pattern, so you can almost predict where the shark will be. Of course that gets more interesting when you have a lot of sharks. As for Emma the Tiger Shark, I asked AI what it knows about her: "Emma the tiger shark is one of the most remarkable animals in the ocean. She belongs to a species that can grow up to 5 meters long and weigh over 900 kilograms. Emma has been tracked by scientists for over a decade, and she has shown remarkable intelligence and curiosity. She often approaches divers and boats, sometimes even nudging them gently with her nose. She also has a distinctive pattern of stripes and scars on her body, which makes her easy to identify. Emma is a valuable source of information for researchers who want to learn more about the behavior and ecology of tiger sharks, which are often misunderstood and feared by humans."

It's hard to believe we've been at this for more than 10 years. To celebrate the start of 2017 and a new year for sharks - check out this brand new trailer for This is Your Ocean: Sharks - Part 2.  The film brings back all of your favorites - including Emma the Tiger Shark, Wyland, Guy Harvey, Jim Abernethy and it's hosted by Dr. Sylvia Earle. This time the team takes students to the Bahamas to introduce them to sharks and shows them what's at risk if we lose sharks. Over the years we've spent a lot of time in the water with the Oceanic Whitetip Shark. Here are two great ways to find out more about this shark - 1 - head over to GHRITracking.org (soon to be an iPhone and android app) and look at all the tracks for the oceanic.
