The Wolves don’t look like themselves yet and the standings prove it. After a run to the Calder Cup Final, Chicago opens the new AHL season with an 0-4 start, and we wanted answers that go deeper than “it’s early.” So we brought on Wolves' captain, Josiah Slavin, for an honest check-in on what’s actually happening on the ice and in the room, what has to tighten up defensively, and how this team can get its pace and offense working together again.  Josiah shares what leadership looks like when you’re trying to set a standard without squeezing the life out of a group. We talk about finding a team identity with new faces, avoiding the mental lapses that turn one mistake into a multi-goal swing, and why “details for a full 60 minutes” is the difference between controlling a game and chasing it. We also dig into the grind of a 72-game American Hockey League season, how younger players learn consistency, and what veterans can do to help prospects take real steps toward NHL readiness.  You’ll also hear Josiah’s perspective on coaching and culture, including why the staff’s energy and personal connection matters over a long season. We hit some roster storylines too: early bright spots, goaltending stability with Cayden Primeau back in the mix, and a young defense corps learning the Carolina Hurricanes system. Off the ice, Josiah opens up about the Wolves' "Faith and Fellowship Night" and why sharing his testimony means more to him than any stat line.  Highlights: • The Slavin family’s surreal year around the Stanley Cup and Calder Cup • Why re-signing in Chicago feels like an easy choice • Growing into the captain role by investing in each teammate • What powered last season’s playoff run and the Colorado comeback wins • How the coaching staff sets energy, standards, and relationships • Building line chemistry and teaching consistency through the AHL grind • Handling an early rough stretch by rediscovering team identity • Early bright spots from new players, goaltending stability, and a young defense group • What Faith and Fellowship Night means to Slavin and to fans • Defining “get right hockey” ahead of the Iowa weekend If you care about Chicago Wolves hockey, AHL development, and what it takes to turn an ugly start into a real season, this conversation delivers.
