Catching Up with the Suns

On this week's episode of Sunny in PHX, Mitch Krmpotich reviews the Phoenix Suns' recent injury struggles. He also reviews recaps of the last few games and looks forward to the coming three games, especially Friday's in-season tournament game against the Lakers. The Suns have had their struggles this season, but are hopefully on the up and up as the team appears to be on the precipice of full health. Also let me know what books you recommend. I'm trying to get back into reading! I am typically a fan of fantasy (if it's not too long), horror, noir, and fiction in general.

Injured Suns Struggle as Season Starts

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at the first three preseason games, and then talk about which of the new players have stood out the most to them.

The Suns had a preseason start full of "interesting" matchups, Monty Williams and the Pistons, the Denver Nuggets, and the new home of Deandre Ayton, the Portland Trail Blazers.  It has been very enjoyable to watch how all the new pieces on the roster are fitting together so quickly at the start of preseason.

Then the guys talk about which of the new Suns have impressed them the most so far.  This was a tough decision to make, since we've seen so much great output from guys like Eric Gordon, Grayson Allen, Bradley Beal, and more.

Preseason Standouts, Early Drama

Suns Season Starts Off with a Bang

The Suns decided it was finally time to move on from Deandre Ayton, and sent him to Portland in a blockbuster trade.  The Suns bring back Jusuf Nurkic, fan-favorite Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson.  Nurkic, Allen, and Little could all fit into the lineup perfectly, but the guys talk about who might not be making the final roster once the regular season hits.

After that, we say farewell to Deandre Ayton and talk about some of his best moments as a Phoenix Sun.

2023 Offseason Trivia Showcase

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at the newly released schedule, talk about the Suns upcoming newest members of the Ring of Honor, and briefly chat Eric Gordon and Deandre Ayton playing for The Bahamas.

The guys start off the episode by picking out a few key games from the Suns regular season schedule.  The Suns have big matchups against the Warriors and Lakers to kick off the season, and 37 games on national TV.

The Suns are finally going to welcome Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire to the Suns Ring of Honor this season - long overdue!  The guys talk about what took so long, and their memories of Matrix and STAT.

After that, the guys briefly touch on the odd couple of Eric Gordon and Deandre Ayton playing for The Bahamas.  Both guys look in great shape... and Eric Gordon still has some bounce!

Schedule Release, Stoudemire and Marion to be Properly Honored

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the Phoenix Suns' new uniforms, upcoming traing camp position battles, and a quick recap of summer league.

The guys start things off by talking about the new uniforms, which pay homage to the 90s sunburst jerseys we all know and love, then go on to complain about the amount of jersey's teams are going through.

Then the guys talk about the Suns two two-way contracts, Saben Lee and Udoka Azubuike, before they start talking about some exciting positional battles that will happen during training camp.  There is one starting spot up for grabs, and then plenty of minutes available at backup PG and PF.  The guys predict who they think will see the bulk of the minutes at all those spots.

New Uniforms, Position Battles, Summer League Recap

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about all of the Phoenix Suns' freshly signed free agents.

The Suns got to business quickly as soon as free agency opened, signing Drew Eubanks, Keita Bates-Diop, Yuta Watanabe, Chimezie Metu, and Eric Gordon.  The Suns addressed nearly every position on the court through free agency and trades this year, and are looking to make another deep playoff run.  The guys talk about how each of these guys will fit in, and what they expect their roles to be.

After that the guys talk about the upcoming Las Vegas NBA Summer League, and are excited to see Jordan Goodwin and Toumani Camara take the court for the Suns before the regular season starts.

Suns Sign Smattering of Free Agents

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the trade with the Washington Wizards - Chris Paul and Landry Shamet for Bradley Beal, Jordan Goodwin, Isaiah Todd, a handful of 2nd round picks, and four 1st round picks swaps.

The guys break down the trade and talk about what the team will look like with Bradley Beal, how he fits in with Booker and Durant, as well as what Jordan Goodwin could bring to the rotation this season.

After that, the guys take a look at the Suns newest draft pick, Toumani Camara from Dayton.  The 23 year old power forward finds himself in an interesting position - a 2nd round pick who could be counted on to play minutes for a championship contender.  After taking a look at Camara, the guys spend a few minutes talking about the upcoming Summer League.

Suns Trade Chris Paul and Landry Shamet, Land Bradley Beal

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the Suns new head coach, Frank Vogel.  Vogel becomes the first Phoenix Suns head coach to have won a championship - and the guys talk about what he will bring to the team.

The guys then talk about the Suns keeping assistant coach Kevin Young on the squad, and the addition of David Fizdale.  The Suns have already added some big-time NBA head coaching experience to the staff - and we should be optimistic to see what they bring to the table.

Suns Hire Frank Vogel

Suns Lose in Familiar Fashion, Fire Monty Williams

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the Phoenix Suns' two big wins over the Denver Nuggets to even the series 2-2.

Without Chris Paul, Monty Williams has added Cameron Payne into the starting lineup and made some big changes to the bench rotation, which paid off bigtime in both Games 3 and 4.  Devin Booker and Kevin Durant have been carrying the majority of the load, but have finally been getting some help from the role players.

The guys talk go deeper into Games 3 and 4, and then take a quick look at the upcoming Games 5 and 6.

Suns Rebound at Home, Tie Series vs Nuggets 2-2

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the disappointing 0-2 start against the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals.  Luckily, the Suns will have the homecourt advantage against the Nuggets for the next two games, coming on Friday and Sunday.

The Suns didn't play terrible in Game 1, but the Denver Nuggets showed why they were the #1 seed in the Western Conference this season.  Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray both had big games to propel the Nuggets to the win - while Devin Booker and Kevin Durant carried the load for the Suns, but fell short.

Game 2 had a very different tone, where the Suns came out very aggressive on defense and on the glass, but ran out of steam on the offensive end towards the end of the game.  Coach Monty Williams shuffled around the rotation a bit, but the Suns only managed 4 points off the bench, and looked very stagnant throughout large chunks of the game.

Suns Drop First Two Games Against Nuggets

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the last three games of the Los Angeles Clippers series, and look ahead to the upcoming second round series against the Denver Nuggets.

The Suns handled business and closed out the Los Angeles Clippers in five games - ending a series in front of the Valley faithful for the first time since 2007.  The guys take a look at how the Suns got the edge on the Clippers in the final three games, including riding the hot hands of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, and some changes to the rotation.

Then the guys look ahead to the Denver Nuggets series, where the Suns will be taking on the #1 team in the West.  All eyes go to the Nikola Jokic vs Deandre Ayton matchup - but the Suns will have their hands full with plenty of size that the Nuggets put out on the court.

Suns Defeat Clippers, Advance to Second Round vs Nuggets

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at Games 1 and 2 against the Los Angeles Clippers.

In Game 1, the Suns came out very flat and had troubles working themselves back into the game.  Kevin Durant got off to a very slow start, while not getting much help from the rest of the roster - creating an early defecit for the Suns.  The guys focus on on Monty Williams' rotations in this game, and say what went wrong.

Game 2 was a different story, seeing the Suns take a victory while looking much more efficient on both ends of the ball, some tighter rotations from Monty Williams, and our star players get into a groove.  The guys also highlight the excellent play from two unexpected sources, Bismack Biyombo and Torrey Craig.

Suns Struggle in Game 1, Thrive in Game 2

Suns to Face Clippers in First Round of 2023 Playoffs

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at the Phoenix Suns' playoff scenario as they near the end of the NBA regular season, and more.

The Suns look to be firmly in charge of hanging on to the 4-seed and hold on to home court advantage for the first round of the NBA Playoffs.  Behind them, the Clippers, Lakers, and Warriors are in an interesting battle to see which teams will match up against the Suns and Kings, and which one will head into the play-in tournament.

Phoenix has been looking very solid with Kevin Durant in the lineup, as the team holds on to their undefeated record with KD in the starting lineup.  We also pose a question, would you rather see plenty of KD and the fellas for the remainder of the regular season?  Or would you rather bench them all and not put anything on tape before the playoffs?

KD Shines, Suns Prepare for Playoffs

Suns Continue to Struggle as KD Nears Potential Return
