He was one of the pioneers of modern psychology and the founder of Individual Psychology. Adler emphasized the importance of social connection, purpose, and overcoming feelings of inferiority. His ideas have influenced psychology, education, counseling, and personal development for nearly a century. Alfred Adler once said: "The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well." At first, this quote might make you smile. But the more you think about it, the more wisdom it contains. It's easy to look at other people and assume they are just what they appear to be on the outside. They look like they have a normal job and a normal life. But once you get to know you might find they have a strange habit or a crazy hobby. Or maybe they have a very different perspective on the world. Until you get to know them they look normal but the truth is nobody is really normal. We are all unique. And the other side of this quote is people you don't know very well usually appear to have everything figured out. We see their successes, their accomplishments, and the polished versions of their lives they share with the world. But we rarely see their fears. Their doubts. Their struggles. Their mistakes. The truth is that every person is carrying something. Everyone has challenges they're working through, insecurities they're managing, or dreams they're still trying to achieve. And that's not a flaw. That's part of being human. Adler's quote reminds us to be a little less judgmental of others and of ourselves and that everyone has something outside the norm in their life. You don't have to be perfect to be normal. In fact, being imperfect may be the most normal thing of all.
