What are your children learning about money right now? Not from you specifically. From everything. From watching you spend. From watching you worry. From the lifestyle they see around them in the Gulf.Children do not learn about money from lectures; they learn from what they observe. And in the Gulf, what many children observe is consumption without consequence, abundance without effort, and wants fulfilled immediately. If we are not intentional, we will raise the next generation of Gulf professionals to make the same financial mistakes we are trying to fix in ourselves. In this episode, Fahad Al Rawahi shares how to do it differently: rooted in Islamic values and practical for the life we actually live. What you will learn:🔹 What Islam teaches about money and children The Prophet, peace be upon him, encouraged teaching responsibility from a young age. Earning before spending, knowing where things come from, and understanding that wealth is a trust from Allah, not an entitlement, are woven into Islamic teaching. The concept of amanah applies to money too: it is not ours to waste, but ours to steward.🔹 Step 1: Pocket money with purpose Money with no structure teaches nothing. A simple 3-jar system turns pocket money into a lesson: one jar for spending, one for saving, one for giving. The proportions matter less than the habit. Setting aside something for sadaqah before spending teaches a child that wealth carries an obligation.🔹 Step 2: Connect money to effort In the Gulf, children often see money appear with no visible effort behind it. Where it suits their age, introduce small tasks that earn money. Not household chores, which are part of family responsibility, but extra tasks: entrepreneurial ideas, helping a neighbour, selling something they made.🔹 Step 3: Teach delayed gratification Waiting is the hardest financial skill for adults in the Gulf. When a child wants something, help them save for it over several weeks. The lesson is earning it through patience and discipline, and when they buy it with their own money, they value it differently.🔹 Step 4: Make halal and haram concrete As children grow, introduce a framework, not a list of restrictions. We do not spend on things that harm us or others. We do not deal in interest. We give from what we have, because that is who we are. A child raised with these values does not need to be told to avoid a riba loan as an adult. They already know why.🔹 Step 5: Let them see your decisions This is the step most parents skip. Let them see you compare prices. Let them hear you say, “We are not buying that today because we are saving for something more important.” Let them watch you give sadaqah. Children who see intentional parents grow up to be intentional with money. You are raising the next generation of Gulf professionals. Give them the tools, the values, and the framework you wish someone
