So often, we expect to define and be defined by others in a singular way, whether that is through our race, career, sexuality, or our relationships. We move through society as though our identities can be packaged away into neat, little, asynchronous boxes. However, human beings are so complex and unique; how can we expect to define each other in this minimalistic way?

On today’s episode, we hear the first part of Angeleaza’s conversation with her roommate/friend Tabitha. Tabitha identifies as SO many different things, from musician to improv QUEEN, to consultant (her day job) to friend/sister/daughter. She is also the daughter of two Haitian immigrants, and as such, she identifies as Black…but not necessarily African-American Blackness (as Angeleaza does).
