Charles Laughton directed exactly one movie: The Night of the Hunter. Audiences and critics disliked it due to its shocking (for 1955) content. Laughton took the criticism to heart and never directed a movie again. People began to come around to the movie in the 70s as the New Hollywood era flourished. Audiences were not as shocked by the content shown and the films reputation has grown steadily since and it is now considered to be the defining film of Southern Gothic horror and one of the best films of all time.I am joined again by Audens to discuss this fantastic movie.
