"Friends through eternity, loyalty, honestyWe'll stay together through thick or thin" In what might be the funniest MoviePod episode yet, we are cracking into the wide world of Vinegar Syndrome releases and covering the orphan and kung fu-heavy tale of friendship known as Miami Connection. This Orlando (NOT Miami) made movie had a ridiculed local release in the 80s and wasn't revisited until the 21st century. Music from this movie was used in Far Cry: Blood Dragon and the sincere earnestness of the film has enchanted bad movie aficionados for years now. Y.K. Kim's film is an absolute blast that everyone should watch.

Neither of Rob Zombie's Halloween movies received much critical fanfare. People found his approach to making Michael Myers a deeper character to be unnecessary and Zombie's typical filmmaking style was seen as off-putting. However, his sequel has gained a better reputation over time as people have have appreciated the increased violence and psychological tension.Maeve is back to discuss what I believe is by far Rob Zombie's best film. Join us for a good discussion on the film and tune in for the live reaction when I reveal that I think The Whale is a good movie. The second follow-up to William Friedkin's horror masterpiece had high expectations but didn't quite become the critical bounce back as expected from the reviled Exorcist II: The Heretic. Overtime William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist III is now widely considered the best sequel in the franchise it features what is considered to be one of the greatest jump scares in horror history. I'm joined by Tim and Tommy from Haven't Scene It to talk about this fascinating and atmospheric film. That is, until the episode goes off the rails with extensive discussion on Fat Russell Crowe in The Pope's Exorcist. Sometimes when fans complain enough they will redo the ending of your hit TV show! Except Neon Genesis Evangelion is no Stranger Things. The ending of EVA was abstract and had to be rushed to keep up with a demanding schedule. After the controversial finale, Hideaki Anno and Gainax decided to reinterpret and remake the finale for the series with a two-part theatrical event. The first being a recap film of the series for newcomers and fans that needed a refresher. The second being a more literal telling of the abstract events of the series: The End of Evangelion. The End of Evangelion was a success and overtime fans have come to reassess how it reinterpreted and recontextualized the original ending of the TV show. As a whole, Neon Genesis Evangelion is considered to be a landmark anime and and The End of Evangelion is considered to be one of the best animated films ever made. It even got a release on the Criterion Channel just this past weekend with the original English dub.I'm joined by Caltex to discuss one of my favourite works of media ever in this ambitious episode that's a twist on the format of MoviePod: a movie that caused the reclamation of the ending of a TV series. You can follow Caltex on Bluesky MoviePod Socials: InstagramTwitterBlueskyYouTube Support the show! Ko-FiPlease rate, review and subscribe! Charles Laughton directed exactly one movie: The Night of the Hunter. Audiences and critics disliked it due to its shocking (for 1955) content. Laughton took the criticism to heart and never directed a movie again. People began to come around to the movie in the 70s as the New Hollywood era flourished. Audiences were not as shocked by the content shown and the films reputation has grown steadily since and it is now considered to be the defining film of Southern Gothic horror and one of the best films of all time.I am joined again by Audens to discuss this fantastic movie. The Night of the Hunter (1955) w/ Audens

It's the movie that depicted a conflict that literally brought down the Fourth French Republic. French critics hated it and it took five years for France to release Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers to release theatrically. Internationally, it was incredibly well regarded. American audiences that were against the Vietnam War gravitated towards it. Due to its grounded depiction of urban resilience and guerilla warfare groups such as the PLO and the Black Panthers had screenings of this film. Even the Pentagon had screenings of this film. This highly controversial film is regarded currently as a fair and balanced depiction of a sociopolitical quagmire in post-war France and Northern Africa. It is considered now to be one of the greatest films ever made. From the Worker's Lit podcast, Jacob returns and Jen Big Nasty makes her MoviePod debut. This is one of the movies that made me decide to choose this format for the podcast. Polarizing when it came out, thanks to an inferior theatrical cut, it released in the same month as other sci-fi gems like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, The Thing and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial. As time went on and additional cuts of the film were released, people went back to the sci-fi noir Blade Runner with deeper appreciation. It is now considered one of the greatest films ever made and it has made a significant impact on other films, video games and television series.Join me and Kevin for a spirited discussion praising this film and dumping on our modern hellscape's version of artificial intelligence. We discuss the theatrical cut with the awful narration and happy ending as well as the director's cut and the definitive Final Cut of the film.Blade Runner was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Ruger Hauer, Sean Young and Edward James Olmos. There's a new Spider-Man in the theatre so it's the perfect excuse to revisit the fantastic, yet maligned, third Sam Raimi film in his trilogy. This film ended a series but people came around to it a bit more a decade later when Tom Holland became the new Spider-Man and people realized this movie was funny on purpose and that the melodrama is something that is missing from the MCU.Spider-Man 3 is directed by Sam Raimi. This is a big one. Batman AND Superman in the same movie? What could go wrong? To many, nothing went wrong and the three hour extended cut of Zack Snyder's superhero team up movie is a a great film. However, those people are wrong. This is possibly my most hated movie ever. I will hand it to them that the longer version is a more coherent movie. Snyder fans to this day like the auteur vision of this film and with films such as Zack Snyder's Justice League getting a proper full release they will still be in the replies of every social media post demanding to Restore the Snyderverse.I am joined by Tim and Tommy from Haven't Scene It to discuss this film that we all did not have much fun with. You can follow Haven't Scene It on Twitter. With one of our greats, Sam Neill, passing away I brough back Dalton Pike to the show to talk about his favourite Jurassic Park film, Joe Johnston's Jurassic Park III. The movie had a mixed reception upon release. However, Spielberg's mixed reception of The Lost World has had people debate for many years on which Jurassic Park sequel is the superior film. This episode has Dalton explain his love for talking animal films to my absolute amusement. We also go deep on our love as children on dinosaurs and this franchise.Jurassic Park III stars Sam Neill, William H. Macy, Téa Leoni, Allesandro Novla, Trevor Mogran, Michael Jeter and Laura Dern. You can find Dalton on Letterboxd. In tribute of the late Sam Neill, I brought Maeve back onto the show to talk about Paul W.S. Anderson's sci-fi horror cult film Event Horizon. It was critically blasted upon release. Decades later, it has influenced a lot of sci-fi video games such as Dead Space and the iconic scene of Sam Neill using a piece of paper to illustrate how a wormhole works has been used in in movies like Interstellar. We also find a way to shit on the Miami Dolphins this episode. Event Horizon stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson and Jason Isaacs. As a bonus film that doesn't really fit the format, I am joined again by Audens and egg_brained to discuss the disappointing film Minions: The Rise of Gru! Hopefully the new film in theatres now will rectify the mistakes of this film and feature a lot more slapstick minion violence. Welcome to Jackass! To celebrate Jackass: Best and Last the supposedly final installment of the slapstick comedy franchise, Dalton is back on the show to chat about a series that both mean a lot to the both of us.Jackass was considered low brow initially. However, the films reviewed better overtime as critics came to realize that the comradery and friendship of the cast are what make it special... on top of the gross out gags and hits the nuts.
